Choosing a Mediumship Mentor: Support, Feedback and Boundaries

A good mediumship mentor can offer structure, observation and honest feedback. The relationship should help a student become more independent, not more dependent on the tutor.

What a Mentor Can Offer

Mentoring may include practical exercises, discussion of evidence, presentation skills, ethics and reflection on areas that need development. Goals should be agreed rather than assumed.

A mentor cannot guarantee ability, accuracy, professional work or a particular style of communication.

Constructive Feedback

Useful feedback is specific and respectful. It should distinguish what was communicated clearly, what was assumed and what could not be verified.

A student should never be pressured to turn a “no” into a “yes” or exaggerate information to appear successful.

Signs of Healthy Mentoring

The tutor explains prices, session length, policies and professional boundaries. Questions are welcomed, and the student remains free to pause or end the arrangement.

Healthy mentoring supports the student’s own judgement and does not claim exclusive spiritual authority.

Warning Signs

Be cautious if a mentor uses fear, says only they can protect you, demands secrecy, encourages repeated spending or promises guaranteed outcomes.

Personal conversation should remain appropriate to the teaching relationship, and safeguarding must be taken seriously.

Choosing the Right Fit

Ask about experience, approach, course content and how feedback is given. A respected name alone does not guarantee that a teaching style will suit every student.
