Energy Healing and Mediumship: Evidence and Boundaries
Updated: Aug 7
Energy healing is an umbrella term for practices such as Reiki, spiritual healing, chakra work and crystal healing. Practitioners may describe working with a life force or subtle energy.
These concepts belong to spiritual and complementary practice. A human energy field that becomes blocked and causes illness has not been established in conventional medical science.
What may people experience?
A quiet session may feel relaxing, supportive or emotionally meaningful. Time, attention, expectation and the setting can all influence that experience.
Research into practices such as Reiki has produced mixed and limited findings. It is not responsible to claim fixed percentages for stress reduction, stronger spirit communication or improved physical health without a reliable source.
Energy healing and mediumship
Some mediums include prayer, healing intention or quiet sitting before a reading. That does not prove that energy healing makes communication more accurate or “prepares” a recipient's aura.
Evidential accuracy should be judged through specific, recognisable information—not through claims about cleansed energy, raised vibration or removed blockages.
Reiki, chakras and crystals
Reiki is a Japanese spiritual-healing practice. Chakras come from South Asian religious and philosophical traditions and are often simplified in modern wellness marketing. Crystals may be personally symbolic, but they are not proven to remove emotional blocks or treat disease.
Health and consent
Energy healing must not replace medical or mental-health care. Practitioners should not diagnose conditions, advise stopping treatment or promise cures. Touch requires clear consent, and the client must be free to stop.
A grounded spiritual approach
People can value a calming spiritual practice while being honest about its limitations. Separate personal belief from medical evidence and avoid using scientific-sounding language to make the service appear proven.
