The idea of an aura—a subtle energy field around a person—appears in a number of spiritual and esoteric traditions. Practitioners may describe sensing colours, textures or changes in energy during psychic or healing work.
It is important to be clear: aura colours are not a scientifically validated way to diagnose health, determine personality or measure a person's emotional state.
What do aura colours mean in spiritual practice?
Colour meanings vary between teachers and traditions. Red may be associated with vitality or strong emotion, blue with calmness or communication, green with balance or healing, and purple with intuition or spiritual awareness.
These are symbolic associations, not fixed facts. Two practitioners may interpret the same colour differently, and a colour should never be used to label somebody's personality or predict their behaviour.
Psychic perception and imagination
During psychic development, a person may experience colour as a mental image, impression, memory or association. That does not mean a physical coloured field has been objectively measured around the body.
A useful development exercise is to notice the colour, then ask what information accompanies it. Does it bring a feeling, word, memory or change in awareness? Evidence and context matter more than memorising a chart.
Aura photography
Images marketed as “aura photographs” generally use equipment and software that translate electrical or skin-conductance readings into colours. The displayed colours are produced by the system's interpretation and are not photographic proof of a spiritual aura.
Health and wellbeing
Aura interpretation must not be used to diagnose illness or replace advice from a qualified healthcare professional. If you are concerned about physical or mental health, speak to an appropriate professional.
A grounded approach to development
You can explore aura colours as part of spiritual or psychic practice while remaining honest about what is belief, symbolism and personal experience. Stay curious, avoid absolute claims and do not make another person fearful because of a colour you believe you have perceived.
